Mayim is most well-known for her two major television roles: Blossom on the self-titled NBC sitcom that aired from 1991 to 1995, and the more recent Amy Farrah Fowler on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, in which she appeared from 2010 to 2019. Mayim also holds a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA.
EARLY LIFE & EDUCATION
Mayim Bialik was born on December 12, 1975 in San Diego, CA to two Jewish immigrants. She graduated from North Hollywood High School and went to UCLA so she could be close to her parents. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and took a break from acting to complete a doctorate in neuroscience in 2007.CAREER
Mayim started acting in the 1980s. She appeared on many hit television shows at the time, including Webster, MacGyver, Facts of Life, and Murphy Brown. She got a big break starring as the young Bette Midler in the 1988 film Beaches, and in 1990 she filmed the pilot of Blossom. After Blossom ended in 1995, Mayim did mostly voice-over work for cartoons, with brief television appearances, including Curb Your Enthusiasm, Fat Actress, and Saving Grace. After completing her PhD in neuroscience, Mayim joined the cast of The Big Bang Theory in 2010, playing the guest role of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler. The role couldn't be more perfect for her. She became part of the main cast in season 4 and remained with the show until its finale in 2019.RECOGNITION
