Early Life
Arianna Huffington was born in Greece. After moving to the United Kingdom to study economics when she was aged only 16, Arianna Huffington became the third female, and the first foreign president of the Cambridge Union.
Career in the United Kingdom
Huffington started writing books and song lyrics in 1970. She published a book called; ‘The Female Woman’ in 1973 and co-wrote the lyrics for an album by Irene Papas which was released in 1979. In the same year Huffington started working in television when she became the co-host of a late night talk show on BBC1 called Saturday Night at the Mill. In 1980 Huffington moved to New York in the United States.
Career in the United States
In the United States Huffington wrote several articles and biographies and did some acting in shows like The L Word, How I Met Your Mother, Roseanne and Help Me Help You. Huffington also ran a liberal radio show called ‘Left, Right & Centre’. In May 2005 she co-founded the Huffington Post, a United States based online aggregator and news site that features news, blog and satire.
In August 2016 it was announced that Arianna Huffington would no longer hold a role at the Huffington Post, but would instead focus on her new startup, Thrive Global.
Accolades in the Media
In 2009 Arianna Huffington achieved 12th place in the Most Influential Women in Media list done by Forbes, which also cited her as the 52nd in the Most Powerful Woman in the World list. She also achieved a spot in the Guardian’s Top 100 in Media list.
