Early Life

Hillary Rodham Clinton is an American politician. She was also the First Lady of the United States between 1993 and 2001, during the time that her husband Bill Clinton was the president of the country. Clinton was born and raised in Chicago. She graduated in 1969 from Wellesley College and in 1973 earned a law degree from Yale Law School. In 1975 she married Bill Clinton and in 1978 she was appointed as the first female chairperson of the Legal Services Corporation. Clinton also worked at Rose Law Firm for several years and became the first female partner of the firm.

Political Achievements

As First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton took on a proactive role in improving the lives of USA citizens – particularly the lives of women and children. She was instrumental in creating the State Children’s Health Insurance Program in 1997 and 1999, and took a hands-on approach to tackling issues of foster care, family safety and adoption. At the UN Conference on Women in 1995 Clinton made a controversial speech in which she stated that women’s rights and human rights are the same thing. In 2000 Clinton was elected as the senator of New York. She was the first woman to achieve this, and was re-elected in 2006. In 2008 Clinton ran for president and won substantially more votes than any female candidate in the past. Although she did not achieve presidency, Clinton was appointed as Secretary of State in 2009. She served under the Obama administration until 2013 during which time she worked towards curtailing the United States nuclear program. In 2016 she ran for president once again. Although she won the national popular vote, she lost the election as she did not reach 270 votes in the electoral college.
